Lyryx updates the total savings for post-secondary students enrolled in courses using open educational resources (OER) with FREE LAB option.
Calgary, AB (May 9, 2019) Lyryx is very proud to be a member of the OER community and takes its role as a contributor very seriously. Working to strengthen OER by employing a sustainable financial model for the development and ongoing improvement of quality open material in the subjects of Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, and Statistics, Lyryx receives no funding from governments, foundations or institutions.
In addition to their open (free) textbooks, Lyryx is pleased to offer its already affordable online homework at NO COST to students in campus computer labs – an initiative called FREE LAB. As of today, FREE LAB has provided free access to thousands of students in Canada and the United States, with savings estimated at over $600K. Claude Laflamme, Founder and CEO of Lyryx Learning, is pleased to say that, “While our products are already affordable and have saved students over $9M in the past four years, we can further offer free access as an option to all students, which is particularly valuable to those in financial need.”
Moreover, in contrast to the ‘inclusive access’ model currently being marketed by large publishers forcing students to opt-out after being enrolled without their consent, and often leaving them without some necessary course materials; FREE LAB is a flipped model that puts course materials in students’ hands upfront at no cost and allows students to opt-in at affordable price for the convenience of accessing materials off-campus. As such, the students decide whether it is worth the cost, and Lyryx believes students have a right to make those decisions!
Lyryx believes the OER movement is playing a key role in forcing these new publishing models, and is delighted to see high-quality OERs increasing accessibility and decreasing unnecessary costs to students.
